Congratulations to 18 year-old Jake Crum for winning the Baileys 300 for late models at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday. He beat fellow UARA competitor Brandon McReynolds to the $25,000 prize and the traditional grandfather clock that goes to all Martinsville winners.

Tony Stewart’s win in the  Price Chopper 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Kansas on Sunday moved him up one position in the points to fourth. He’s now only 67 points behind leader Mark Martin.

The Chase for the Championship in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series gets just a little tighter each week. Nine of the top ten finishers at Kansas this weekend were “Chasers”.

After the race in Dover last week there were three drivers within 106 points of leader Mark Martin. Now, after Kansas, there are six.

Brian Vickers dropped two spots in the Chase to twelfth, 250 points behind the lead, thanks to his 37th place finish in Kansas. Realistically, his Chase is over.

Some people were concerned about Joey Logano’s confidence after his spectacular tumble at Dover last week. But he answered that question in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race in Kansas. Logano drove past a dominant Kyle Busch with just four laps to go to take the victory.

Kyle Busch led 173 of the 200 laps in the Nationwide race at Kansas and set a new single season record for the number of laps led in the series. The old record, held by Sam Ard since 1984, was 2,127 laps. Busch ended the day Saturday with a total of 2,226 laps led so far this season.

Danica Patrick’s possible move to NASCAR is coming closer to being a reality. Although she has signed a new three year contract with Andretti-Green racing to continue running a full schedule in the Indy Car Series, she has also been in talks with Rick Hendrick and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. about running 5 to 10 ARCA and possibly Nationwide Series races as her Indy Car schedule will allow. Go Daddy.com will sponsor but nothing has been signed yet.

Rain has had an effect an almost every race series in the world this season and the NHRA is not immune. The O’Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals in Memphis, TN was the latest victim. The entire day of final eliminations was a wash out on Sunday. The race will take place today, Monday, and the TV coverage will begin at 7:00 PM Eastern time.

Scott Bloomquist won the 6th Annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals Sunday night at Knoxville Raceway. It marked Bloomquist’s second Nationals win as he took this event in 2005. The victory paid the Mooresburg, Tennessee driver $40,000.
