Yea Penske...That took some kahounas ...But Ragan ...Ugh... Reut probably would've been a better choice (no matter what they gotta sell Penzoil on it)...Just PLEASE Don't get vickers as the Sprint series drivers need at least a years break from his damage...Maybe Addington will give him (kurt) a reccomendation @ Stewart Hass

Ya know Drew, this is one of the best unemotional articles on this topic that I have read. NASCAR and the networks are harping this 100 win deal as something much greater than it is. The kid is good, no question. But to put him in the same breath with Petty, Pierson, Earnhardt is whacked at best. DW is so protective about his 83 wins why hasn't he come out griping about the number as he has done over Allisons uncredited win. Again, the kid is good but his claim to fame right now is his tie with Martin for the 49 in Nationwide, nothing greater. Gibbs greenbacks have been like steroids in baseball.

Amen. to that. I almost barfed when Jerry Punch indicated how his 100 win would put him in a class with Petty, Pearson, Gordon, Earnhardt, etc.
Right now if you really look at it he is only a couple wins ahead of Kenseth, Jr. and a few others. For example Newman just won his 15th Cup race which is only 7 behind Busch and Newman has done that is arguably more inferior equipment than Busch as had. Penske Fords versus Hendrick chevy's were a no contest in the early part of the decade, Penske Dodges were even farther back, then SHR was a start up even with being Hendrick affliated. He SHOULD win with the equipment he has available at Gibbs. Also of note how many of his wins have come in the last three years when teams in all three series but especially Nationwide and Trucks have been barely able to make it to the track must less compete with "well-funded" teams that really should not be using Cup guys anyway. Him winning in his own truck is a little different but using the Gibbs NNS cars again he should be winning. It's not too hard to beat the little guy when the ball is 85% in your own court. Roush and Hendrick (JMS) barely can compete with Gibbs at the NNS level.

If we're going to count everything, then Dick Trickle was robbed for not being selected in the Hall of Fame's first class.

Nascar seems to race everything but the "stock car" part of their name. Wind tunnels and pit crews and collusion win? races. Daytona was made to run 200, so you don't need downforce, it is built in the track. Any argument against taking away all downforce devices on the cars is admitting these millionaires can't drive their way out of a paper bag. And without the downforce crap you can put springs back on the cars. 1968 Torino #21 qualified at 189 mph, 43 years ago!!! Dirty up the cars, make leading the race a "dis" advantage!! Heavy brake rotors and calipers, 50 pound driveshaft and flywheel, cast iron intakes and exhaust manifolds, I could slow the cars down!! And I'd triple the roll bar hoops behind the driver also, Newman wouldn't have a problem getting out of my upside down car.

It they are going to do this type of racing then the car in front and the car pushing should both get the win! One car cannot do it without the other, this is why I say it is not good racing. When you have teams admitting that they are all trying to get one of their drivers a win, how is this racing! Racing is supposed to be about one car being faster over a distance than the other cars. This is two cars having to be nose to tail, the driver in back cannot even see what is going on, to act as a single car. How is this racing?

I think Tony was being duplicitious when saying that Danica is serious about racing Nascar. Who isn't? The thing is, try to compare for example Cole Whitt and Danica and one can easily see that only one of them is actually competitive. The other is a backed by a gold mine.
